Hurricane Season; My favorite Summer Lanterns

I’m in a backyard frame of mind these days and so I found myself digging out my hurricane lanterns and sorting through half melted candles recently.  We put in a new outdoor grill and kitchen area last August and so we are starting to grill out when the weather is nice.  Mr. Ivy is a wine lover so he usually goes looking for a good Pinot Noir after lighting the grill and I usually go grab the long matches to light the hurricane candles on our back porch.

If you need to add to your romantic, wind proof collection, here are a few favorites I found out there this season.  You may have to write down your favorites as the links weren’t holding in my post today.  But you can easily find them on their source websites and order any of them online.

Hurricane Season Williams Sonoma

This one is from Williams Sonoma and I like having one or two very simple plain ones so that I can use them anywhere and can fill them with sand or fruit or whatever I want to fit the occasion.

There are lots of pictures on Pinterest of ideas on how to fill plain glass hurricanes for seasonal entertaining or how to use them. This is a pretty way to combine flowers and light for a buffet table outside.  Most of the time  for  me though, clean and simple is great with these.  Nothing more annoying than having your candles go out after you’ve lit them.  That’s why I like hurricane lanterns so much.

Hurricane Season Pottery BarnThese Pottery Barn brass framed hurricanes are decorative enough for inside or outside.  I think these would be pretty on an outdoor buffet or even on a path step for lighting. If you have an industrious helper, you could hang them too.

And a strong wire or rope!  I’d hate to have one come crashing down during dinner….a mood wrecker for sure.

Hurricane Season Frontgate Coral

I love this Coral lantern from Frontgate.  It comes in orange/coral too.  This just screams seaside and makes me wish for a beach, sunset and platter of boiled shrimp to go with it.  Beautiful beach nights ahead.

Maybe Mr. and Ivy and I should get remarried again so I can have a dinner party like this!

Hurricane Season Amara Wood Base

This simple lantern has a modern, clean shape and yet the natural wood base makes it a pretty outdoor lantern for a natural setting …I picture a California beach home or any contemporary style.

Hurricane Season Crate and Barrel

Crate and Barrel offers this hurricane lantern with spun swirls of glass to give off a romantic broken light. These would glam up your outdoor dinner party.

Pretty beach event with cylinder hurricanes and white flower bouquets.  Hurry before the wine gets hot on the table!Hurricane Season Frontgate

Blue light is mysterious at night and I thought these cobalt lanterns from Frontgate would give off a nice glow.  They are really a cross between a hurricane lantern and a votive in size.

Hurricane Season Amara small with leather strap

There are also a lot of hanging lanterns for those with trees, hooks on a wall or stakes in the ground.  I thought these from Amara were nice with their leather handles and bell shape.  What a beautiful glow in the trees.

Hurricane Season Amara BrassI thought these were kind of fun too.  The ones above are from Amara and their shape remind me of a more bohemian outdoor scene.  Layers of batik pillows, printed blankets and platters of exotic fruits and dips and breads and oils. The one below is from Amazon.

Hurricane Season Pottery Barn Tortoise
Golden glow of amber light with Pottery Barn lanterns

Tortoise glass for a different type of look from Pottery Barn.  I think these would be pretty in Colorado on our outdoor table.  Our furniture is dark brown with bright orange seat cushions.  They pop against the bright blue Colorado sky and these would fit right in to the scene with a golden night glow.

Here’s another clean, sleek hurricane with natural wood.  This one just looks so portable.  I think you could easily talk around it on a dining table and it wouldn’t overpower an outdoor coffee table.

Hurricane lanterns extend the night with friends outside and make summer evenings so romantic and relaxing. I hope you have some new outdoor inspiration and some long summer nights ahead.  Let me know your favorite in the reply box below!
