Dear Busy Mom, A Letter To Those Wondering If They Are On the Right Track

Bought fruit and vegetables for the science project detecting electricity in a potato and lemon[/caption] These are the days when I can get in the funk of what I would call ANTI-success.

Took the dog to the vet…
God’s purposes and plans seem lost from my grasp at times and things that I put my hands to have no metric to show exactly how well things are going. You know the saying, “You can’t see the forest for the trees”?  Well, some days I feel like I’m standing at the base of one tall tree in a huge forest and just can’t see the big picture at all. forest But, What if the little things are really the big things. What if, the very thing you are doing all day long that doesn’t seem like much… The To Do List Like, the check you write to a charity or the cooler you drag to the team event or the friend you find yourself next to on the bleacher, or the child you are reading a story to …what if that is God’s purpose right now.  Ask Him. What if the bank teller or the young guy at the grocery store checkout, or the girl doing your nails and the mailman are exactly part of His purpose. Paul says in a letter to the church in Corinth, 2 Corinthians 3:2 “You are our letter, written in human hearts, known and read by everyone.  Being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, delivered to us….written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” A concession stand conversation could be the key to another woman’s struggles and the kid in your carpool backseat may need a little understanding because things in their world are really difficult. And, you are just the letter they need to read today of God’s love and compassion.  Maybe it’s just not that hard. God is about love.  God is about the influence around you to BE HIS LOVE. If you are struggling with the idea that you should be doing more somewhere outside of where you are…..maybe you don’t really need to try as hard as you think to find His purpose. Remember that God has already got you in a place of influence and you are a letter of His love to those you touch all day. God sees a huge, enormous, magnified picture.  Even the very day you have in front of you….He already knows.  If we walk closely to Him, we will see chances to be the letter of love that somebody needs. Thank you Lord for loving us and showing us how to love others through the little things during our day.  When we don’t see the big picture, help us to trust you.  Please help every person reading this feel your peace as he or she walks out their calling in whatever circumstance they are already in right now.  In Jesus name, Amen. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comment box below.  If you like this post, share it with a friend that you think might like to be a part of the Ivy and Sprig readership and comment forum. 1. LOVELY way to start my day; it is about relationship not accomplishment. Thank you for reminding me to do “LOVE” today using Him who first loved me!

    1. I know, I am such an accomplishment/check the box type person that when I have to choose to get sidetracked into a conversation that is totally God-driven, it can be a tough choice in my head but sometimes stepping back to see what God is doing in each intersection of our day is better than checking all the boxes. Thanks Ellen….You recommended to me the book, LOVE DOES by Bob Goff and that book speaks to this. Love Does…

Steph- this is beautiful and spoke directly to me! Thank you for expressing the doubt, confusion and love that we all feel as we try to discover God’s plan for our life. You are the best!!!!!

  3. Ivy, your post today brought tears to my eyes. YOU were the letter of love I needed to read today, as the past few weeks I’ve been having this exact struggle. Thank you for this beautiful reminder that even in the midst of the mundane busy-ness of life, we can be His light to someone else who needs it.

  4. How inspiring. I would like to add more purpose to my daily tasks. It feels good to be in the mindset that it’s important to share love with each person you come in contact with. I am happier and feel closer to God when I’m out of my own head. Thanks Steph for this lovely reminder.

  5. As I recall, He told us, “Love one another.” That in itself is challenging enough. People who have been revived by ER doctors say in surprising similar terms, they were given another try. Perhaps if we stick to the basic “love one another,” the rest will fall into place?

  6. This came at the perfect time for me after taking my mom to the dr and spending all day trying to come to the realization that she is steadily declining
Thank you for always being there for all of us

  7. Stephanie….this is so true. I get so busy with my activities at work and chores at home that it’s sometimes easy to forget to spread His love. This is a great reminder. I pray that I’m teaching my precious 4 year old class how to love and show love to one another. Thank you Stephanie!

  8. Wonderful message, Stephanie! It hits home this week as I’ve seen some wonderful examples of friends who embody “If we walk closely to Him, we will see the chances to be the letter of love that somebody needs.” Also love how you describe that “God is about the influence around you to Be His Love” and how even the little things are important. Very thoughtful!
